Lyme Disease Test: Early Detection After Tick Bites | SELFCHECK 10-Minute Home Test

Worried about Lyme disease after a tick bite? Early detection is crucial. We are excited to announce the launch of the SELFCHECK Lyme Disease Test this Spring. This simple 10-minute test allows you to check for Lyme disease quickly and easily at home.

Lyme disease is an infection caused by Borrelia bacteria that are spread to humans through the bite of infected ticks. It's prevalent in areas where ticks thrive, such as woodlands, parks, and gardens. In England and Wales, an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 people are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year (NICE Guideline NG95, 2018).

While there's no single definitive test for Lyme disease, the presence of infection can often be identified by detecting specific Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies in the blood. Test timing is important. Antibodies typically appear two to four weeks after infection. IgM antibodies, the first immune response, peak around six weeks post-infection.

Not everyone bitten by an infected tick will develop detectable antibodies. If you suspect a tick bite or have been in areas with ticks in the last three months, and you have Lyme disease symptoms, it's important to seek medical advice. Symptoms can include flu-like symptoms, fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, nausea, or the characteristic erythema migrans rash (a round or oval rash) (NHS - Lyme Disease, 2025).

Delayed Lyme disease diagnosis and treatment can lead to severe, long-term symptoms.

The SELFCHECK Lyme Disease Test offers a reliable way to detect anti-Borrelia IgM antibodies, associated with Lyme disease, from a simple finger prick blood sample. Easy-to-follow instructions in plain English, get results in just ten minutes at home. The test has 89% agreement with lab tests. Made in the UK under ISO13485 standards, the SELFCHECK Lyme Disease Test comes with professional customer care.

Important to know

All SELFCHECK branded tests are assembled by us in the UK at our ISO13485 certified manufacturing and R&D facility. Our medical tests are also CE certified according to UK and EU regulations, and registered with MHRA as self-testing devices.

Our tests are based on the same principles used by hospital labs, and provide reliable, meaningful results, but self-testing is not meant to replace established NHS healthcare pathways. Always consider what a positive or negative result will mean to you before testing, and be aware of the limitations of the test you are using.

If you have symptoms that concern you, always speak with your pharmacist or doctor.
