Detailed Information: What Our 6 Panel Drug Test Screens For

Understanding the specifics of a multi-drug test is crucial. The SELFCHECK kit is designed to provide clear, individual results for six distinct drug categories frequently tested for in the UK:

Cannabis (THC): Detects metabolites of Marijuana and Hashish. Commonly detectable for 1-7 days in occasional users, but can be much longer (weeks to a month or more) in chronic or heavy users due to storage in fat cells.
Cocaine (COC): Screens for Cocaine and its primary metabolite, Benzoylecgonine. Typically detectable for 2-4 days after use.
Opiates (OPI): Identifies common opiates such as Heroin, Morphine, and Codeine. Generally detectable for 2-5 days after use.
Amphetamines (AMP): Detects Amphetamine-type stimulants (e.g., Speed). Usually detectable for 2-4 days after use.
Methamphetamines (MET): Includes Methamphetamine and related substances like MDMA (Ecstasy). Typically detectable for 2-5 days after use.
Benzodiazepines (BZO): Screens for a class of prescription drugs often misused, such as Diazepam, Lorazepam, and Alprazolam. Detection times vary significantly depending on the specific Benzodiazepine and frequency of use, ranging from a few days up to several weeks.

Each drug has a specific cutoff level (concentration threshold) that must be met or exceeded for a presumptive positive result. Our test uses standard screening cutoff levels aligned with common practice.

How to Use Your SELFCHECK Multi-Drug Test Kit

Our urine drug test is designed for ease of use, providing reliable results in minutes:

1.  Ensure the test kit is at room temperature before opening
2.  Collect a fresh urine sample in a clean, dry container
3.  Open the foil pouch and remove the test panel. Do not touch the test areas
4.  Dip the absorbent tips of the test panel vertically into the urine sample. Ensure the urine level does not go above the 'MAX' line
5.  Remove the panel from the urine and place it flat on a clean, non-absorbent surface
6.  Wait for the coloured lines to appear. Read the results at exactly 5 minutes. Do not interpret results after 10 minutes

A detailed instruction leaflet with diagrams is included in every kit to guide you through the process.

Interpreting Your Multi-Drug Test Results

Each drug on the panel has its own result window with a Control line (C) and a Test line (T).

Negative Result: Two coloured lines appear: one in the Control zone (C) and one in the Test zone (T). The intensity of the Test line (T) may vary; any visible line in the Test zone, no matter how faint, indicates a negative result for that specific drug. This means the drug was not detected above the test's cutoff level.
Presumptive Positive Result: One coloured line appears only in the Control zone (C). No coloured line appears in the Test zone (T). This is a presumptive positive result for that specific drug, indicating the drug was detected at or above the test's cutoff level.

Interpret each individual drug panel separately to understand the result for each substance tested.

Important Considerations & What to Do Next

Home drug test kits provide a valuable initial screening. However, it's important to remember:

Confirmation is Recommended: A presumptive positive result from a home test should ideally be confirmed by a laboratory using methods like GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) for legal or significant personal decisions.
Detection Windows Vary: The times listed are estimates. Many factors influence how long drugs stay in a person's system.
External Factors: Certain medications or substances can potentially interfere with test results.

If you obtain a presumptive positive result or have concerns about drug use, we strongly recommend seeking professional advice. For parents, this might involve speaking to a healthcare professional or a support organisation. For employers, follow your established drug and alcohol policy and consider laboratory confirmation.

Better to know

We want you to be aware that no biomarker, even when checked by your hospital lab, is 100% perfect at diagnosing a specific medical condition. Because of this, a false positive result may cause unnecessary worry and further investigations, whilst a false negative result may give you peace of mind, when actually there may be an underlying condition that requires treatment. Rather than purchasing a self-test kit, you may wish to speak with your NHS GP first, who can arrange for tests if needed.

Make sure that you have considered what a result will mean to you before deciding to test. At SELFCHECK, you can also speak with our health check experts if you need help to use your test or interpret your results.
