SELFCHECK® Prostate Health Test (PSA) | Easy Home Test Kit for Men
Concerned about your prostate health? Check quickly and privately with the SELFCHECK® Prostate Health Test. This easy-to-use home test kit allows you to check your Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels with a simple finger-prick blood sample in 10 minutes.
Checking your prostate health is an important part of men's wellness, particularly as you get older. While a raised PSA level doesn't automatically mean prostate cancer, it can indicate other prostate conditions like an enlarged prostate (BPH) or prostatitis. The SELFCHECK® PSA test is a convenient first step to understanding your levels, and prompting you to speak to your GP.

Understanding PSA and Your Prostate Health
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the prostate gland. Small amounts are normal in the blood, but higher levels can suggest that something is affecting the prostate.
While the SELFCHECK® test is a valuable screening tool, it's important to understand that a raised PSA level isn't a definitive diagnosis of prostate cancer. Many men with a high PSA are more likely to have a different, less serious prostate condition. Equally, a small number of men with normal PSA levels may still have prostate cancer.
This test is designed to give you an indication of whether your PSA levels are higher than normal, helping to prompt you to take the next step by consulting your doctor if needed.
Who Should Consider This Home Prostate Test?
PSA testing is recommended for men who:
- Are aged 50 and over, or;
- Have a family history of prostate cancer, or;
- Want to proactively check their prostate health
In the UK, men over 50 without symptoms can request a PSA test from their GP.** Our home test offers a private and convenient way to find out if your PSA level is higher than normal.
What Your Results Mean
Negative Result: Indicates your PSA level is within the expected normal range at the time of the test. This can offer reassurance, but it's still important to be aware of prostate health and consider regular testing, especially if you have risk factors. Always speak to your GP if you have any symptoms that concern you.
Positive Result: Indicates your PSA level is higher than the normal threshold for this test (approx 4 ng/mL). You should consult your GP to discuss your result. An elevated PSA needs to be properly evaluated by a healthcare professional to determine the cause.
Pros and Cons of PSA Testing
It's important to be informed about the potential benefits and limitations of PSA testing so that you can decide whether or not you want to test:
Pros
- May provide reassurance if the result is normal
- Can help find early signs of prostate problems, potentially including cancer, allowing for earlier medical advice
- For some men, regular PSA testing may contribute to detecting prostate cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage
Cons:
- PSA tests are not 100% accurate; it can miss some prostate cancers and may give a false sense of security
- A positive result can cause anxiety and lead to further tests which may show no serious problem
- The test cannot distinguish between slow-growing cancers that may never cause harm and aggressive cancers that need immediate treatment
- It may identify a slow-growing cancer that wouldn't have caused issues, potentially leading to unnecessary treatment
No self-test is a substitute for the expertise and resources of your GP. Always discuss any concerns about symptoms, or positive test results with your GP.
Easy Steps to Take Your Test:
- Prepare: Wash your hands
- Collect Sample: Use the sterile lancet provided for a simple finger prick
- Apply Sample: Place the blood sample onto the test device
- Add Solution: Add the buffer solution as directed
- Read Result: Your result will appear in 10 minutes
Full, easy-to-follow instructions are included in every kit.

Better to know
We want you to be aware that no biomarker, even when checked by your hospital lab, is 100% perfect at diagnosing a specific medical condition. Because of this, a false positive result may cause unnecessary worry and further investigations, whilst a false negative result may give you peace of mind, when actually there may be an underlying condition that requires treatment. Rather than purchasing a self-test kit, you may wish to speak with your NHS GP first, who can arrange for tests if needed.
Make sure that you have considered what a result will mean to you before deciding to test. At SELFCHECK, you can also speak with our health check experts if you need help to use your test or interpret your results.
