Contains 1 test.

This test is a specific, manual, qualitative, immunochromatographic (lateral flow), screening test for the detection of anti-Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) antibodies in a finger-prick whole blood sample.

General information

The presence of H. pylori bacteria in the lining of the stomach or intestine can cause chronic gastritis that may lead to a stomach ulcer and/or cancer. Approximately 90% of patients suffering from gastric ulcers are infected with H. pylori.

During an infection with H. pylori, your immune system may produce antibodies that can be detected in a blood sample.

Time to result

The test gives a result in 10 minutes at home and is unaffected by diet, or antacids.

Warnings

A screening test for a single biomarker, such as anti-H. pylori antibodies, is not a diagnosis.

Not following the instructions exactly as written in the instructions for use may cause a false positive or false negative result.

Do not change your medication, diet or lifestyle solely on the basis of a self-test - always discuss your result with an appropriate healthcare professional first.

A positive result may also be seen if you have been recently treated for a H. pylori infection. Stomach ulcers may be caused by reasons other than an infection with H.pylori bacteria.

Accuracy

This test has a cut-off of 15 AU/mL for a positive result, and has an overall agreement of 93.48% (85.74-97.72*), sensitivity of 92.54% and specificity of 96% with laboratory anti-H. pylori antibody tests. Although this test is reliable for the detection of anti-H. pylori antibodies, all medical tests can give false positive or false negative results.

IMPORTANT: These figures refer to the agreement of the SELFCHECK test with laboratory anti-H. pylori antibody blood tests, and not to the accuracy of tests for the diagnosis of stomach ulcers.

*95% confidence interval.
